I shook my head and shook their hands,
and headed off to distant lands
to test the virtue of their sound
philosophy

On a dusty road in a dusty land,
I met an old and rusty man
If I had to guess his age, a day older than
the bible's first page

He had his cash and he wore it proud,
Shoulders back and a voice real loud,
but then he whispered in my ear,

"I'd trade you all my wealth and failing health,
for the years you have ahead."

I carried on but his words lingered in my head

I traveled years and saw the world,
Fell in love with a fine young girl;
Now at home not a day goes by
Without a vision of the old man's eyes
And his words echo in my head...
